Jewellery designed and handmade by Jo. My jewellery, wherever possible, is crafted from recycled silver. My registered hallmark is JBG and is added for silver over 7.78g. The hallmark means that the article has been independently tested and conforms to the legal standards of silver purity (see www.jbg-jewellery.co.uk/dealers-hallmark-notice).
I design and handmake all my jewellery, mainly sterling silver, and beaded items. I have always enjoyed making jewellery but started silversmithing in the last few years. By training I am a scientist who has spent circa 30 years working in the pharmaceutical industry. I have always enjoyed arts and crafts and working away at my bench still reminds me of my days in the lab!
My silversmithing teacher is a lovely jeweller Cathy Newell Price. I attended one of her workshop days and was inspired to join her online classes (https://www.cathynewellprice.co.uk/learn-to-make-jewellery-2.html). I am very much a hobbyist and whilst practicing my technique decided that I could only wear, and give away to my friends, so much jewellery and wanted the opportunity to sell some of my pieces to continue my practice.
I love to meet my customers and will be attending a number of craft fairs this year. Please see my events page for upcoming craft fairs. If you get the opportunity to attend, please do come and say hello.
Of note, my first fair this year is the Artists and Makers Fair on Saturday 8th March 2025 at Caversham Methodist Church. Coinciding with International Women's Day the event will be supporting charity Smart Works Reading through sales of refreshments. This is a local charity that provides women with the clothing, coaching and confidence they need to succeed in interviews and get the job and where I volunteer as a coach.
If you are unable to attend a fair and interested in one of my pieces do please visit my online shop at: https://shop.jbg-jewellery.co.uk
Recent customer reviews:
Caroline: I contacted Jo to make a pair of stud earrings in the shape of hoops. I wanted a simple design to go with a sterling silver pendant I purchased last summer from her range. Thrilled when I got them, just what I envisaged to go with the necklace & pendant.
Rachel: I met Jo at a craft fair in my town; I instantly was drawn to her stall with all the amazing jewellery. I was tempted by a few items but I was looking for something specific. I asked Jo if she could make me something bespoke incorporating ideas from a piece on display. She took my details and less than two weeks later she had made and delivered them to my home address. My new earrings are just what I had imagined and perfectly crafted. What an amazing talent Jo has. I can highly recommend her.
